I heard that Deveny woman did a bit of grandstanding and made a cheap and distasteful attempt at headline grabbing by exclaiming publically that the "hoodie" was the same guy who she alleges attacked her some time ago in the same district. I'm not denying that some low life might have made a grab at Deveny (and no woman deserves it so please no tasteless cracks about who'd want to grab at Deveny?) but, Ms Deveny really needs to answer a couple of questions if she doesn't want to leave herself open to accusations of grandstanding and headline grabbing: 1. Did she go to the police at the time? And if not why not? 2. If she recognised the "hoodie" when the CCTV footage was shown on television and the police investigation was still a work in progress, what did she do first? Did she share this information with the police directly and immediately in order to assist with their enquiries? Or did she immediately grandstand about it? I've been following the Meagher case online in the Irish media where, as you would expect, it's received top billing. Lo and behold they reported the Deveny "grandstand" stunt and that's how I found out about it. The woman is a crass motormouth who doesn't know when to STFU. But this one is bad - even for her

Pim, I can't say I heard anything from or about Deveny. Maybe she was on the telly when I was watching but I'm not sure; sometimes I tend to switch off, both mentally and with a remote!
Absolute credit to the Vic Police for getting on top of this matter and making a timely arrest.

Deepest Condolences to Ms Meaghers Family, and also to the ABC Melbourne team, for whom she was an integral member. Furthermore well done to Jon Faine (whose program she managed) in the way he has handled this. From his heartbroken intro this morning and also for the way he has not descended to Tabloid Sensationalism, in his handling, in what is a particularly difficult case for him and his team. I hope the rest of us (the Media in particular) learn to follow his example. For those who missed it... here is Jon Faine's broadcast: media.theage.com.au/news/national-news/jon-faine-reflects-on-jills-death-3672640.html?from=newsbox

Pim, I can't say I heard anything from or about Deveny. Maybe she was on the telly when I was watching but I'm not sure; sometimes I tend to switch off, both mentally and with a remote! Absolute credit to the Vic Police for getting on top of this matter and making a timely arrest. You won't get an argument from me about the way the Vic cops worked, volk. Here's a snippet in the Australian about Deveny: SOCIAL commentator Catherine Deveny believes a man police want to talk to over the disappearance of Jill Meagher is the same man who tried to drag her off her bike as she rode along Sydney Road, Brunswick, in July.
After seeing CCTV footage of the man approaching Ms Meagher last Saturday morning, Ms Deveney has tweeted her claim. She has contacted Crimestoppers and reported the attempted assault.
On her Twitter page she says: "He was alone. On foot and I described him as 'Early 30s sandy hair, jeans and blue hoodie.' I just saw the footage now. Same guy. If you look closely at the footage he appears to have a gun in his pocket. Shaking Thought he was a drunk dickhead but appeared a bit menacing if women reported every bit of public harassment they got cops would be flat out."www.theaustralian.com.au/news/catherine-deveney-believes-she-was-attacked-by-man-wanted-in-meagher-case/story-e6frg6n6-1226482153293OK, fine that she reported it to Crimestoppers. But the follow up tweet is still grandstanding and headline grabbing

3 LO should be commended on their handling on this. As everyone knows, Ms Meagher worked on Jon Faine's Morning Shift, as one of the Managers. Yet the way they have handled the case has been nothing more than professional. None of the Tabloid style hysteria (that you could almost imagine would be the case in some other quarters), not one bit. Instead they have treated this with the up most sensibility, at which is undoubtedly a difficult time for them. Most pertinent is the view expressed by all that they must be vigilant in ensuring the Accused receives a fair trial, They have also made a point in relaying Mr Meaghers views re Social Media

I'll try to put this as sensitively as I can, while trying to be sensible about it. It should read: they have treated this with the utmost sensitivity

It really doesn't need reminding that this case is now Sub-Judice. As such, any allegations of prior criminal activity, on account of the defendant cannot be mentioned. The police made a plea that people refrain from making wild allegations over Social Media, for the victims sake, I don't think anyone wants to put the upcoming trial in jeopardy.

I have a feeling he is also the same guy who grabbed and raped a backpacker in St Kilda recently.
We all hope he is never released.

Well, they had a photo-fit and the description was identical to what Ms Deveny stated.
Allegedly.

its important to respect sub judice. Social Media, such as forums like this, can prejudice trials in the same way that statements in the MSM can prejudice trials. We must be very careful what we do say in relation to this case now. Even the most innocuous remark can jeopardise the chances of Ms Meagher receiving natural justice

That is what courts are for.
It is only natural for us to comment. But I doubt whether any of what we say could possibly be used as any evidence for either side.

If the court take into account some inflammatory post expressing a totally gratuitous and utterly subjective opinion from someone completely unconnected with the case like all of us here (presumably!), and that prejudices the case, then the court is an ass. I'm still allowed to say that, aren't I??
