Interesting watching ABC24 this morning, as I get ready for work. All it does is regurgitate what has been published in the mornings "Australian" It does this everyday. It's gotten to the point where this hack that they have wheeled out to talk about the days newspaper headlines (some schmendrick from the IPA) , is critisizing "The Age" for a mild dig at Malignant Murdoch.
"Our" ABC ? An Independent ABC ?
Yeah right, and the middle one plays Mozart.

The Germans say "Ludwig", the Dutch say "Lodewijk", the French say "Louis", the Spanish say "Luiz" and the Italians say "Luigi". I believe the English use either the French "Louis" or else "Lewis". They do NOT write it as "ludwick".
The "von" part is a prefix. It isn't a surname in itself. It's like the O' part of an Irish surname like O'Toole, or the "Mac" of a Scottish name. Or the "van" part of a Dutch surname. It means "of".
And the guy's surname was in fact Dutch - or more likely Flemish since I have an idea that was his ancestry. Same language, though. So while his first name was impeccably German his surname was impeccably Dutch: Ludwig van Beethoven.
