OK, whilst the prevailing narrative is that Carbon Pricing is toxic, I actually believe that this summer that will change.
If the summer is as hot and dry as spring currently is north of the divide, then the narrative will swing back to AGW, and how to counter the effects of it.
Instead of "Toxic Tax", we will be talking about just how effective "direct action" will be as a policy that aims to abate Carbon Emissions, as opposed to an ETS. (all except for Andrew Bolt, of Course).
I just wonder how popular ditching the "tax" will be once people realise just how expensive Abbotts Direct Action "alternative" is to implement. ( I really don't think the notion that the tax payer pays the polluters to, maybe, decrease their emissions, as opposed to a scheme that puts the onus on industry to clean up, will wash)
Bare in mind, that the only credible way "ditch the tax" is to claw back the tax -free-threashold to $6K (beware when you hike up the income tax of middle income earners)
As the rest of the OECD starts moving toward an ETS, Abbott will start to look increasingly isolated, and out of touch.(not to mention idiotic)
Don't be too surprised to see Tony quietly adopt some sort of ETS.
