:oHide the meds!Bender :'(must be beside himself since his hero seems to be suing his Labor party PM..lol ;D What’s up with this? Suing the old cow??..lol Julian Assange has reportedly hired Sydney lawyers to pursue a defamation case against Prime Minister Julia Gillard. Mr Assange has told left-leaning activist group GetUp! that Ms Gillard defamed WikiLeaks when she allegedly told a radio station in 2010 he had broken the law by releasing hundreds of thousands of US diplomatic cables, according to a statement released by the group on Monday. "I have hired lawyers in Sydney and they are investigating the different ways in which we can sue Gillard over this statement," Assange told GetUp! Mr Assange is holed up in Ecuador's embassy in London after seeking asylum as part of a bid to fight extradition to Sweden, where he is wanted for questioning over rape allegations. Mr Assange also rejected claims by Foreign Minister Bob Carr that he was receiving full consular support. "When there are statements made that there are 63 consular contacts, they are counting emails that they send my lawyer asking for some future possible appointment," he said. "I haven't seen any member of the Australian embassy or consulate since I was in prison in 2010. And even then, all they did was bring some notepads, pens, et cetera," he told GetUp! news.ninemsn.com.au/national/8544338/assange-bids-to-sue-gillard-for-defamation

I don't think that Bender has actually said anything that indicates his support of Julian Assange.

Bender was the one who posted the Wikileaks topic on the old board, ding dong! If memory serves me correct and in this case I know it does, he was quite pleased about that information becoming public. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_AssangeJulian Paul Assange ([ /əˈsɑːndʒ/] ə-SAHNJ;[2][3] born 3 July 1971) is an Australian editor, activist, publisher and journalist.[4][5] He is best known as the editor-in-chief and founder of WikiLeaks, which publishes submissions of secret information,[6] news leaks,[7] and classified media from anonymous news sources[8] and whistleblowers.[9]

Just because he posted Assanges' comments doesn't mean that he supports them.

Assange is a shit stirrer, and his wikileaks has done a good job at that, sometimes shit needs to be stirred and brought to the publics attention, he did not break any laws in doing so.
Gillard like all Australian political leadedrs are all too quick to be knobheads for the US and its bullshit bananas with war and such.

Journalists in Rupert Murdoch's newspapers have quoted Wikileaks as sources. Everybody quotes Wikileaks. I've even heard Liberal politicians in the Australian parliament quote from Wikileaks.
I carry no torch for the guy. He pulls stunts. The threatened lawsuit against Gillard is just the latest bit of posturing. He's also announced his candidacy for the Australian Senate in next year's elections. Dunno which State he intends to stand in. It's a stunt. The Liberals will probably give him their preferences ahead of Labor. That's the type of stunt they like to pull - such as that Green who got into Parliament in 2012 thanks to Liberal preferences. Dragonfly probably doesn't understand what Australians mean by "preferences" in elections. No criticism of you, Dragonfly. It's an Aussie thing. I won't even try to explain it. Australians have enough trouble understanding how "preferences" work in elections so you can't blame an American for not knowing.
So Assange is not the hero you claim some of us think he is. But neither is he the devil. At least he's no worse than Daniel Ellsberg who published the Pentagon Papers that blew the whistle on the lies told about the Vietnam War way back in the early 1970s. Kissinger said back then that Ellsberg was the "most dangerous man in the world". It was thanks to Ellsberg's whistle blowing that Congress got the spine to pass freedom of information laws - laws that have been circumcumvented over the decades since such that during the administration of Geirge Dubya America had become a more secretive and paranoid society than it was under Nixon, and the greatest criticism of Obama is that this secrecy has continued and has been extended.
So yeah! It took a clown and a stunt puller like Julian Assange to blow the whistle. Somebody had to do it and somebody was always gonna do it. It wasn't going to be the American media either. Pusillanimous bunch! If the media culture that we have today had been around in the 1970s there would never have been the Watergate story and nobody would have wanted to touch the Pentagon Papers.
So I don't care if Assange has blotted his copy book by becoming a self-serving egotist and stuntman. I'm glad he blew a whistle that badly needed blowing.
