Life goes on, folks. I don't know what specifically killed off NTB and where the responsibility lies so I won't cast nasturtiums. So I've decided to move on and my first "political" thread in this post-NTB era, as we move into this new forum, is not so much about Cory Bernardi but about Cory Bernardi luvvies.
In fact we should be grateful to Cory Bernardi because in his "bestiality" speech to the Senate, as well as in his speeches on Muslims and on climate change denial he's shown himself to be the true poster boy for the Gillard haters, the poofter bashers and the Islam vilifiers that we encounter on these boards. They vote Liberal and proclaim the virtues of the Liberal Party, but in truth their own personal views are so extreme in the bigotry and xenophobia that they encompass that whenever a Liberal government does in fact come to office they must end up asking themselves "Is that all there is?"
In the last 20 years, however, we've seen politicians emerge on the extremist fringes of the mainstream conservative parties who engender fierce loyalty in the breast of some of the contributors to the discussion boards. Look at the way Caskur proclaims her love for Pauline Hanson. Still!! And for the past few years we've had Cory Bernardi head up the SA Liberal Senate ticket. A protégé of Nick Minchin, with a mutual loathing between himself and the Mincing Poodle (Christopher Pyne), and having filled the Senate spot left by Robert Hill, Cory Bernardi has found a secure berth in the Australian Parliament that Pauline Hanson could only have dreamed of.
Forget Abbott. The fruitcake far right freakshow that fulminates against Muslims, that demonises asylum seekers, that views gay marriage as a Green conspiracy, and that regards action on climate change and global warming as a diabolical global conspiracy to impose world government, will in the end be disappointed with a Liberal Government. Even an Abbott Liberal Government. After all, remember Abbott's role in the political destruction of Pauline Hanson?
Cory is their poster boy. He has a lot more political smarts than Pauline, has connections with some very dangerous and well-funded outfits and can tap into a lot of expertise. Cory Bernardi is central to the Tea Party makeover that we've seen happen to the Liberal Party over the past ten years. This guy is a dangerous man. And now he's gone rogue.
