Get a load of this willya!! It leads in today's Daily Bellylaugh - the paper you can thrust:
UN vote backdown to save the PM's job
JULIA Gillard's leadership close to collapse after cabinet refused to back her policy to vote against a UN resolution about Palestinian state. ... blah blah blah and so on ad nauseam
www.dailytelegraph.com.au/
I had to get the brakes on my vehicle checked this morning and while I was waiting (as you do!) I happened upon a copy of that Murdoch rag. That scurrilous lead piece was followed on the inside pages by a double page spread on ... you guessed it ... slush funds and a union bagman.
This in a week in which, as Barry Cassidy reports, the Gillard Government achieved three monumental outcomes that of themselves should be huge news stories:
1. Finally got the loggers and the conservationists to agree on a way to end a 30 year dispute over the Tasmanian forests
2. Fixed a black hole in the Australian Constitution by stitching up a deal whereby the Murray/Darling river system comes under a federal regime in which the inland towns get water and the river system gets a lot of water put back into it.
3. Put in place a regime to regulate fishing in seas around the Australian coastline that cover an area several times the Australian landmass.
These are huge stories in themselves. Most of us here have grandchildren. I am bloody glad that my grandchildren will inherit a country whose major river system was safeguarded by measures undertaken by an Australian government when they (my grandkids) were babies.
Not one word in the Bellylaugh. Not a single syllable! Instead we have a bullshit piece about Gillard almost losing the prime ministership over bloody Israel.
Whenever there's a Labor Government the media become decidedly "glass-half-empty" rather than "half full". They are beneath contempt
