"DEPUTY Liberal leader Julie Bishop has defended her efforts to deny compensation to WA asbestos victims in her role as a corporate lawyer in the 1980s.
"In Australia's greatest single industrial disaster, an estimated 1000 people living and working near the mine at Wittenoom have died from asbestos-related diseases including asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma.
"Ms Bishop, the federal Opposition's industrial relations spokeswoman, confirmed her role as an instructing solicitor for mine owner CSR in cases involving three asbestos victims who worked at the mine.
But she rejected a plea from the Asbestos Diseases Society to apologise for her actions. Ms Bishop said on Friday she commiserated with those affected, who included CSR executives, whom she had represented."

Lawyer Peter Gordon told Australian Doctor magazine in 2007: "We had to fight even for the right of dying cancer victims to get a speedy trial. I recall sitting in the WA Supreme Court in an interlocutory hearing for the test cases involving Wittenoom miners Mr Peter Heys and Mr Tim Barrow. CSR was represented by Ms Julie Bishop (then Julie Gillon). (She) was rhetorically asking the court why workers should be entitled to jump court queues just because they were dying."

'Outspoken Nationals Senator Barnaby Joyce has declared he is on a personal campaign to change politics.
'His move is partly in response to being described as "deranged" by Climate Change Minister Greg Combet, but he says there is a much bigger issue at play affecting the public standing of all politicians.
'"We've got to realise what the public are saying - the public are starting to put a pox on both houses and they're starting to ask questions about 'are we acting like adults?'," Senator Joyce told reporters in Canberra.
"Out there ... people are just saying 'we don't get you people'.
"As I've said before, it's like Romper Room and it's not really a political debate."

Bishop and her cold stares is proof enough she is a heartless women...no empathy for dying people, but plenty for alive rich.
And as for Barnlaid Joyce.....he would do well to look at his own party leadership style...endorsed by radio 2GB.

Bishop herself is now in the shit: sleaze goes too far and backfires. Abbott will have to back Bishop or sack her says Albanese, but he is such a slimey arsehole he will do neither. He will sit there with a guilt ridden smirk all over his face as he usually does. The farce thickens! Bishop had a phone call before her meeting with Blewitt which both he and she have most effectively done. She said, and this is for real, I'm not joking; it was on ABC noon radio news, " It was a bad line" and she could not hear it very well, and she also said she, " Did not know who it was from!" This woman is supposed to be a lawyer, she is deputy leader of the oppostion, possibly to become deputy PM......Is she a nutter or does she think we, the punters, are even nuttier and that she can spin the sort of shit that Abbott has been throwing at us for the last few years? Yes, we know!!!
